Dreams and self-therapy

The word “therapy” comes from the Greek word for healing. We have “professionalized” therapy, in psychology there are therapists of all kinds. But there are too few therapists, and psychotherapy is expensive. Those who need it most often can’t afford it. In professionalizing therapy, the therapy industry has fostered the illusion that personal change can only occur through therapy. That is false.
With wisdom, courage can hard work we can be our own therapists. But we must learn to look at ourselves honestly and face the truth about ourselves. That is difficult and painful. Sometimes when people try to do their own therapy, they fool themselves and look away from the darkness in their own souls.
That is where dreams come in, and this is a crude image of my dream messenger.

This figure appeared to me in a dream years ago. Pardon my limited artistic skills, but it shows what my dreaming brain conjured up. I call him my dream messenger because his wings were dark black when they were folded, but when he unfolded them, they were brightly colored
Dreams come from a place outside of our conscious ego. They can appear mysterious and dark at first, but when they unfurl their wings they can offer genuine truths about ourselves.
