Thre relationship between nightmares and trauma is an important one. About half of those who suffer acute trauma will have nightmares. Is a nightmare a result of the mind struggling with trauma? Or is it the mind trying to heal from trauma?

In my clinical work as a psychiatrist I have been running a nightmare clinic for almost 2 years. This has been fascinating work. While most nightmare sufferers. are recovering from trauma, some simply have nightmares. I have found that patients benefit a great deal from exploring their nightmares. Simply viewing a nightmare as a meaningful communication from the psyche rather than a pathological symptoms makes it much less terrifying.

In other news I recently participated in a panel on dreams with Kim O'Niell, on her show Lets Talk Fabulous! The link is below.
